If you live in the Chicago-land area, it is our preference to do first time consignors by appointment. Please call 773-883-0880. We schedule our appointments Monday through Saturday during regular business hours, 10am until 6pm.. This is the best way to eliminate any misunderstandings about the type of merchandise we do and do not accept. If you are unable to schedule during those times please review the guidelines below and additionally the section for “Shipping Consignments from out of Town”.
Clothing is accepted seasonally. We accept Spring and Summer clothing during the months of January through April. Fall and winter clothing may be dropped off during the months of July through October

We are extremely selective about the brands as well as the condition of items. Please refer to our “Brands We Love” page. If you have a question or believe a particular brand should be on the list please contact us via e-mail

Please review the guidelines for in-store consigning and follow these additional steps:
Choose up to 30 pieces that will best represent the items you would like to consign with us. Go to our Consignment Agreement page, print the form and complete the required information. Include the Consignment Agreement and ship us (or if you are local, drop off) your items.
Once we have received your package a qualified Second Child staff member will process your items and e-mail an itemized list of accepted items. That's it! Once you've received a consignor number you're in! Feel free to ship (or drop off) at any time, of course adhering to our guidelines of brands and condition.
Sorry, if your items do not meet our standards we will notify you by e-mail. We will be happy to donate your items to charity or return them to you at your own expense. This is why as a first time consignor we ask you to limit the number of items you send. This will help us both see if we are a good fit.
Returning merchandise is a one time courtesy for first time consignors. Future drop offs that have unacceptable items will be automatically donated to charity.
Due to the volume of items received every day and limited space, we need to be very selective about the toys we will accept for consignment. We have done our best to outline what we are and are not interested in. Please try and remember that we can not possibly list everything and that final acceptance of an item is always at the discretion of The Second Child.
Some of the more desirable toys include: American Girl. Brio, Melissa & Doug, Plan Toys and Little Tikes. Most hard cover toddler books, wood puzzles, doll houses & walking toys are good. Legos and Playmobile are great if the are unopened.
Please DO NOT bring us stuffed animals, games, cardboard or plastic puzzles, DVD's, teething toys, promotional toys, blow up toys, bath toys or party favors.
Please DO NOT, include electronic & remote controlled toys. All toys must be clean, unbroken and without any missing pieces!
All furniture and equipment must meet current safety standards. Please clean all items and make sure you have all the parts and hardware. Directions are helpful but not necessary.
If you have any questions in regarding the acceptability of an item, please call ahead of time.
We thank you in advance for choosing to do business with The Second Child and for your trust in our ability to sell safe, quality merchandise at a fair price for all.
